The three main types of deixis are person deixis, place deixis and time deixis. Person deixis encodes the different persons involved in a communicative event. Do we have to find out who the speaker and who the addressee is? why?
In my opinion we have to find out who the speaker and who the addressee is. Because in person / personal deixis concerns the encoding of the participants in the speech event in which the utterance in question is delivered. So, person / personal deixis can refer to anyone and anything. Forexample "She wants to get the best score in the final exam" In the word she the speaker is a woman, but can refer to other women when other women say the same thing. The word she cannot change, but the referent can change depending on who says it. The word she is the singular form of the subject pronoun of the third person pronoun.
Of course we have to find out who is the speaker and who is being addressed so that we know clearly what is being said. Example when your friend said "From here, my house is not far away". "Here" is" for something near or close to the speaker. In this case, "here" may refer to the place where the speaker is.
Yes we need to know where the speaker means. Because most of the speakers say it if the other person knows the intended purpose. If the interlocutor does not understand then they will be confused by the intention.
in my opinion we have to know which one is the speaker and which one is being addressed, because here our role is to see in the third person we must know which one is delivering and which one is accepting so that we know the purpose of the conversation carried out by these two people, because usually person dixies used in face to face conversation.
I do agree with you Mr. Asep. I think of course we have to find out who the speaker and addressee are, and which one is the speaker and which one is the addressee. Because how we can interpret someone's intention or meaning, when we do not know who the speaker and addressee when using diexis in the language. Because diexis is about the speaker's intention, so when we use diexis, we have to consider the context of it.
i do agree with Asep opinion, because i think the same. That we have to know which one is the speaker and which one is being addressed, because we are as the third speaker in this conversation. if we don't know which the speaker and which the addressee, it is feared there will be wrong interpretation and misunderstanding. Because Deictic words’ meaning changes depending on the speaker.
I think yes to know who and what the intention of it. As i know, personal deixis is same as personal pronoun so if we knew who is the speaker and the hearer, we will know what is the intention of the conversation. Example: A: I want to make a tea. Do you want a cup of tea? B: Yes, please. From that example we know that A as the speaker and B as the hearer. A told to B that she/he want to make a cup of tea and then offering to B. So, the context and the intention in here is offering something. I think that is from me, thank you.
